International Rumba Step List

Basic

Note - Man can also turn basic by turning up to 1/2 turn to L on step 4.

New Yorker

2 Turn 1/4 turn to R, check forward with LF Turn 1/4 turn to L, check forward with RF
3 Replace weight to RF, then turn 1/4 turn to L Replace weight to LF, then turn 1/4 turn to R
4(1) Side LF Side RF
2 Turn 1/4 turn to L, check forward with RF Turn 1/4 turn to R, check forward with LF
3 Replace weight to LF, then turn 1/4 turn to R Replace weight to RF, then turn 1/4 turn to L

Spot Turn

Note - Man should feel like he's walking backward; lady should feel like she's walking forward on the spot. Continuously turns to R. Keep center of rotation between partners.

Opening Out/Closed Hip Twist

2 Side LF, pressure step. Forward RF, turning 1/2 turn to R
3 Replace RF Replace LF, turning 1/2 turn to L

Note - Step is done after an odd number of measures of Natural Top.

Hockey Stick

234(1) Same as Alemana, but turn L hand 1/4 turn to R Same as Alemana

3 Replace LF Forward RF, turning 1/2 turn to R on '&'
4(1) Forward RF, following lady Back LF

Note - Starts from fan position. Note the changed hand position at end of first measure - this differentiates the hockey stick lead from that of an alemana.

Shoulder to Shoulder

234(1) Basic, but turn self 1/4 turn to L at end, placing R hand on lady's R hip. Basic, but note man's part for lead
2 Roll weight to RF Roll weight to LF
3 Roll weight to LF Roll weight to RF

1 Roll weight to LF Roll weight to RF

Note - Hip rolls make be taken in a number of different rhythms. This is just an example.

Side Step

Note - Shifting hips requires straightening of the appropriate leg. Step can be done to either side, forward, back, diagonally.
